The Quiet Room at Wimbledon: Misuse and Relocation

The organizers have already introduced a so-called quiet room at tennis Wimbledon in the past. But in the past, people used it for love games. Now the organizers have moved it and ask everyone to use it as they have.

The organizers introduced a quiet room at Wimbledon, which was located behind court number 12. It was two booths with chairs and folding tables. The original intention was that visitors could relax there from stress.

But some took it their own way. Several times couples were seen going out, still adjusting their clothes and smiling slyly. One couple spent 25 minutes in the cabin when suddenly a man climbed out followed by a woman who was still pulling up her pants. Others heard amorous sounds from the cabins.

The organizers responded to the misuse of the quiet room by moving it under the stands of court number 12. The All England Club chief executive Sally Bolton has now warned fans that security staff will ensure that it is used correctly, i.e. for resting, praying or breastfeeding . The cabins will thus be under constant surveillance.

”The quiet room is coming back this year. We built it under the 12 court grandstand, so I think it’s bigger than last year. If I’ve got the dimensions right,” Bolton laughed in an interview with the website Daily Star.

“Kidding aside. It’s a really important space, so we’re going to preserve it and make sure people use it in the right way. It’s a peaceful space,” she continued. And she added one funny story from last year. “One couple disappeared inside, locked the door and were gone forever. I managed to finish two drinks while they were there. They put an ‘occupied’ sign on the door,Bolton added with a smile.

This is how Novak Djokovic celebrated last year’s Wimbledon triumph:
