The question of the quality of graphics in games, or is it worth setting Ultra at all?

Ray traced shadows, reflections or global lighting, all together can greatly contribute to the overall quality of graphics and realism. The problem is that game designers have long since learned to use the necessary crutches that rasterization offers them, and the game drawn using ray tracing does not necessarily look better, but rather different. Players then may not have the time or motivation to examine whether a particular shadow is properly sharp or soft, whether they really see everything in the pool, which should be reflected in it, and whether that corner is really realistically lit.

This can be very similar in the case of the quality setting itself. We used to really expect low-quality display games to be really ugly, but that’s not true today. Especially in the case of low quality, the difference can usually be recognized immediately, but from the middle to the highest setting, it can be similar to the case of rasterization vs. ray tracing, which has been one of the main topics of recent times in our country:

Now we have it test the TechSpot server, which examines the differences in quality settings and especially whether it makes sense to choose the highest and thus deprive yourself of performance. Of course, many people don’t even have to deal with this, and if their goal is to play the game at a smooth frame rate (usually 60 FPS), then they simply set the appropriate quality. But is it worth craving the highest and buying newer hardware for it?-

As it turned out, definitely not always. For example, in Watch Dogs Legion, we have to work very hard to notice the differences between Ultra, Very High and High, which of course there are, but if we have to work hard to find them on still images, we can answer for ourselves that high settings don’t make sense. But when it comes to performance, it’s different and on weaker cards than the RTX 3080 it can be the difference between a smooth game and a slideshow.

It is very similar in the case of Cyberpunk 2077 or in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, where, on the other hand, there are no longer such abysmal differences in frame rates. The test is followed by Dirt 5, Hitman 3, Doom Eternal, Days Gone, Deathloop and finally Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The conclusion follows from the above, that is, if someone appreciates a higher frame rate, especially one that will ensure the smooth running of the game, one should not even think about setting a lower quality.
