JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD In his opinion, Presidential Decree No. 2 of 2022 concerning State Sovereignty Enforcement Day which does not include names Suharto no different from the text of the Proclamation of Indonesian independence which only included the names of Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta.
In fact, said Mahfud, efforts to liberate Indonesia were not only championed by Soekarno and Hatta, but also by dozens of other figures who were members of the Investigative Agency for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI).
“It’s the same as the Proclamation of independence on August 17, 1945, that’s what founded this country a lot. When it comes to BPUPKI, the number is 64 people, 60 members have a chairman, deputy chairman, and so on, but only two people (in the text) of the Proclamation, Soekarno Hatta, ” Mahfud said in the video caption, Thursday (3/3/2022).
Mahfud said that although the names of BPUPKI figures were not mentioned in the text of the Proclamation, their roles were still listed in the history of independence.
He said this also applies to the figures of the March 1, 1949 General Attack, where their names have not been erased from history even though they are not listed in Presidential Decree 2/2022.
Mahfud explained that the presidential decree was only the figures who acted as initiators and drivers of the March 1, 1949 General Offensive, namely President Soekarno, Vice President Mohammad Hatta, Minister of Defense Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX, and Commander General Sudirman.
Meanwhile, other figures who played a role in the incident, such as Suharto, Abdul Haris Nasution and Wiliater Hutagalung, were included in the academic text compiled to make the presidential decree.
“Traces of history are not lost and written in books, even on one page Pak Harto’s name was written twice on page 51, it was only one page that Suharto’s name was written twice, so no trace of history was lost,” said Mahfud.
He added that the presidential decree was not a history book, so it was impossible to list all the names of the figures who played a role in the March 1, 1949 General Offensive.
“If you mention all of them, (it) is called history. For example, in the March 1 general attack, all the dates of preparations were mentioned from here and then a plane passed, turned left, turned right, that’s history,” said Mahfud.
“This (Presidential Decree) is the determination of a crucial day and only mentions the top ones as the initiators and movers without eliminating Suharto’s role at all,” added Mahfud.
As previously reported, Presidential Decree Number 2 of 2022 concerning the Day of Enforcement of State Sovereignty has been in the spotlight because it did not include President Suharto’s name.
The regulation stipulates the establishment of the Day for the Enforcement of Sovereignty on March 1, referring to the General Attack on March 1, 1949, which is known to the public as involving the figure of Suharto.
Quoted from a copy of the presidential decree, in the consideration section letter c it is stated that Presidential Decree 2/2022 was made by considering the events of the March 1, 1949 General Offensive.
In this point, it is stated that the General Offensive of March 1 1949 was initiated by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and ordered by the Commander in Chief General Sudirman and was approved and moved by President Soekarno and Vice President Mohammad Hatta.
This point also states that the March 1, 1949 General Offensive was supported by the Indonesian National Army, the Indonesian National Police, the people’s struggle armies, and all other components of the Indonesian nation.
