At a press conference today, Gestev, in agreement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide, revealed the full distribution of WE WILL ROCK YOUhis new large-scale musical comedy dedicated to the legendary group Queen and their music. Remember that this truly global phenomenon, applauded by nearly 20 million spectators across 28 countries, will see its very first Quebec version presented in Montreal, Quebec, Trois-Rivières and Gatineau from spring 2025.
It is under the direction of Steve Boltondirector (Cirque du Soleil) and head choreographer (Mary Poppins, The Bodyguard), that this energetic, futuristic and dystopian rock musical will unfold, which sees two clans clash to save rock’n’roll. “To bring humanity back to life, we must bring back rock’n’roll!” That’s it WE WILL ROCK YOU. And we hope that the audience leaves the show with music in their ears, energized and with a smile on their lips,” expresses Steve Boltonwhich signs the Quebecois and renewed adaptation, translated into French by Sylvain Larocque.
Thus, alongside the performers of the first three roles previously announced — PIERRE-OLIVIER GRONDIN (Galileoa marginal dreamer invested with a mission in spite of himself), FRÉDÉRIQUE CYR-DESCHÊNES (Scaramouche, a cynical woman fiercely opposed to conformism) and ANNIE VILLENEUVE (Killer Queenan artificial intelligence that ferociously dominates humanity) —, will find itself PATRICK OLAFSON (four Tocadéo, Grease) who will embody KhashoggiKiller Queen’s right-hand man, BENOÎT FINLEY (The producers, Mégantic) who will camp Ozzybohemian guru and archival researcher, LAURENCE CHAMPAGNE (Pride and prejudice, Oh mama) in the role ofAXLexalted sidekick and lover of Brit and MARTIN ROUETTE (Alerts, Footloose) inasmuch as Brita courageous bohemian rebel who inspired his colleagues. These seven artists will be surrounded by a group of eight gifted and versatile accomplices, in turn singers, dancers and actors: Alexandre Iannuzzi, Elisabeth Gauthier Pelletier, Kathline Gréco, Elizabeth Lauzon, Chloé McNeil, Stéphanie Paquet, Mathieu-Philippe Perras and Alex Simpson will complete the cast.
Celebrating rock’n’roll to the rhythm of 25 pieces from Queenincluding the essential “Somebody to Love”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “We Are the Champions”, “Under Pressure”, “Don’t Stop Me Now” and the eternal “Bohemian Rhapsody”, This formidable cast will evolve in various atmospheres representing the two rival clans – the ruthless leaders of the Corporation and the rebellious rebels -, plunging the public into successively futuristic and more organic universes, with grandiose projections and breathtaking costumes.
Created by Queen et Ben Elton, WE WILL ROCK YOU takes place in the near future on a planet now controlled by a powerful corporation. Globalization is total. Individuality is taboo. The music is generated by computers, rock is unknown and all instruments are banned. The hope of liberation rests on an improbable resistance: an alliance of rebellious bohemians, waiting for a hero to lead the battle to return the power of rock to the people.
