The Quebec government is injecting $ 25 million in artificial intelligence

The Legault government is injecting more than $ 25 million for the realization of projects of local companies in artificial intelligence, a week after the announcement of the sale of Element AI to a giant in Silicon Valley.

“The call for projects that we are launching today will accelerate the process of integrating artificial intelligence into our companies in order to boost their productivity and competitiveness. It is excellent for our economy and it is excellent for Quebec’s position in this strategic sector on a global scale ”, insisted the Minister of the Economy, Pierre Fitzgibbon, Monday, during the Forum – of the IA to the company.

More than $ 329 million over five years has been budgeted for 2019-2020 to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, including $ 65 million for business projects.

“We must find the fastest possible way so that artificial intelligence can serve our SMEs,” insisted the minister at a press briefing.

Young companies, innovative SMEs, large-scale projects … Quebec is targeting three components to propel artificial intelligence with this call for projects.

Rain of millions

On Monday, Quebec also announced that it had paid nearly $ 24 million to more than 143 projects of local companies in artificial intelligence. During a first call for projects, Quebec had already granted nearly $ 23 million to 138 projects.

In mid-October, the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) raised doubts about the fallout from artificial intelligence super-clusters, like SCALE AI, which may be thinner than expected.

“Performance will be measured by reducing the productivity gap and creating wealth,” said the Minister of the Economy, Pierre Fitzgibbon when The newspaper asked him about it.
