Daniel won with the set numbers 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 against the Norwegian. Daniel is number 125 in the world ranking. It was the first time the two met at ATP level.

In the quarter-finals, Daniel meets either Australian Alex de Minaur or Jacopo Berrettini.

On Tuesday morning, the Snarøya man struggled on against Guido Andreozzi after a tiebreak in the third set. It was the 24-year-old’s first match since the Australian Open exit in January. Since then, the Norwegian has had just over a month of training in Norway.

Ruud entered the tournament as the 2nd seed, but was the highest ranked player again after world number two Carlos Alcaraz had to withdraw due to injury.
