The quarantine guests have cost almost two billion

Travelers who have ended up in quarantine hotels have cost the state dearly.

Figures from the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) show that the state has paid for quarantine hotels, reports P4.

In total, the bill for the quarantine hotels for 2021 is NOK 1,952,406,347. The quarantine guests have themselves paid NOK 252 million for the hotel stays through deductibles of around NOK 500 per day.

The rest of the bill has been taken by the state.

– The state has paid or reimbursed costs that the municipalities have had to operate the quarantine hotel scheme, says Hilde Kjær, CFO of DSB, to channels.

This involves hotel operations, security and transport. Last year, a total of 118,000 people stayed in quarantine hotels.

A large proportion of these checked into hotels in Ullensaker municipality, around Gardermoen.

– For a municipality, it would have been completely impossible to bear such an extra cost himself, says mayor of Ullensaker, Eyvind Schumacher to the channel.

This summer, they had quarantined guests in a total of 3,000 rooms, spread over nine different hotels.

The mayor admits that it has cost a lot of administrative resources, at the same time as constant changes in rule changes and travel risks have made it challenging.
