The Latvian U19 women’s football team concluded the qualifying round of the 2022 European Championship in Poreč on Monday, informs the Latvian Football Federation.
The Latvian footballers played a draw with the Liechtenstein girls in a goalless match. In the last game of the tournament, the head coach of the national team Viktors Vicehovskis had made several changes in the starting line-up, giving the playing time to the goalkeeper Laura Siņutkina, who was previously in reserve.
In the first half, the Latvian team had the upper hand in the attacks – seven shots in the direction of the goal, four of which flew to the goal, while in the second half both teams tested the vigilance of the opponents’ goalkeepers twice more, but the result remained undisclosed.
It has already been reported that on Friday the result of the young Latvian footballer lost 1: 3 (1: 1) to his peers from Croatia. In the first duel in this tournament, Latvians gave up their peers from Kosovo 0: 3.
Croatia won the group with nine points in three games, followed by Kosovo with six points and Liechtenstein and Latvia with six points each. Liechtenstein ranks third in the tournament table due to a better goal-to-lose ratio.
At the same time, the competition took place both in the format of the UEFA League of Nations, with the strongest teams playing in League A, and the lowest ones in League B, and as a qualification for the 2022 final. The Latvian national team competed in the fifth subgroup of the B league. The winner of the group and the best of the winners of the second position qualified for the strongest or A league, from which it will be possible to win a place in the final tournament.
The second round of qualification will be held in the spring of 2022. For the U-19 teams, the final tournament with eight teams will take place next summer in the Czech Republic.
