The Quadrant House: A Unique Moving Terrace in Poland – KWK Promes Architecture Studio

The house in Poland, which is partially gabled, partially flat, looks more like a statue due to its pure white facade. However, the exterior of the house is not the only thing that surprises – it has a special terrace that changes its location during the day, reports the “Uncrate” portal.

The house “Quadrant House” was designed by the architecture studio “KWK Promes”. The name is given in honor of a device that astronomers use to determine the location of the stars. This motif serves as the basis for the concept of the moving part of the building – the terrace, which, following the movement of the sun, is able to turn 90 degrees.

“Part of the building responds to the movement of the sun and follows it,” the house’s architect, Robert Konecny, tells Dezeen magazine. As the terrace moves, the owners of the house are given the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant shade, and also provide light to the rest of the building.

The mobile part of the building rotates between the living area and the spa area. To ensure access to the garden and terrace, the living area is equipped with sliding glass doors along the entire length of the wall.

The terrace moves along a track installed in the garden. Thanks to the continuous movement, the grass is able to grow even under the floor and the lawn is equally beautiful throughout the garden.
