He received a kind of “enlightenment” and became a singer. Give a simple explanation when asked how he got into this world. It is likely that until that light his mother guided him, who decided to enroll him in music classes when he was a child. But above all, his classical music teacher, Ramón Sastre, from Segovia, showed him the way, whom he still fondly remembers. He taught her to play classical guitar at the age of eight.
Now, together with this string instrument, he travels the squares of Spain (and other countries such as France, Italy or Portugal). Singing in the street is for him “a pride”: he considers it the theater of life, with which he feels “most identified”. In these places he meets the “most popular, on foot” people. According to Hedo, this direct contact with reality and the sun “is the true culture.”
When he was just three years old, he had already recorded a music tape on a tape recorder that his mother had. This was his first voice recording record. He has been linked to creation all his life. He prefers to talk about singing, rather than about music: he finds it too “cloying”. Furthermore, Hedo is not a musician for use: he is “an artist.”
“By singing, I spread the energy out and communicate faster with others,” he says. When he interprets, he feels “useful.” For him, this is a symbol of freedom. This has never been lacking. His environment made things easy for him so that he could develop what made him happy. Hence, he also claims the freedom and strength of the song, which takes its meaning in the magical moment of inspiration: “A deep and experiential inspiration”, as he explains.
He makes his own songs. He defines them as “lyrical music, passed through the popular Tamil”. Hedo combines music and poetry: his two muses. This last genre he is passionate about. He considers it the art of being young. “The melody adapts to the word and the word to the melody,” he says. He believes that one does not exist without the other. In fact, this is precisely the origin of his popular and classical art. It embodies a return to the romantic form of music, which “does not deceive, which refreshes”. Through his lyrics and his clear and vibrant voice he tries to convey everyday reality or address issues of love, landscapes, derision …
He also does not like the word triumph. For him, there is no greater triumph than feeling fulfilled with what he does. He is skeptical of this concept. Try not to pay too much attention to flattery. You are satisfied with what you have achieved so far. His first song dates from 1994. Since then, he has composed more than 200, in addition to a prolific literary work in verse and prose. A few days ago he gave a concert at IE University that was “wonderful”. He did it accompanied by his musician Adolfo Díaz, with whom he has shared the stage for years.
He is one of those who thinks that life is eternal gratitude. “Just getting up, breathing and being able to sing and play the guitar is the most beautiful and important thing there is,” he says. His gratitude is always “to God, not to human beings.” The triumph seems to him an illusion. Therefore, his main objective is that each of his songs touch the hearts of those who listen to them. Now more than ever.
