/ world today news/ Purchase prices of tobacco this fall will be 10-15% higher than last year (then BGN 2.90-3.05 per kg burley) with a weaker but better quality current vintage, it says 24 hours.
This became clear at a conference of 60 tobacco producers, coordinators from North-Eastern Bulgaria, held in the village of Nova Cherna, Silistrensko, with the participation of at least two of the licensed purchasing companies.
The expectation was that there would be greater competition between them. “We anticipate a slight increase in prices by about 10%, as tobacco determines its own price, as long as producers pay attention to quality,” confirmed Tsvetan Filev, chairman of the National Association of Tobacco Producers.
The “Burley” varietal group is located exclusively in North-Eastern Bulgaria, in the cultivation of which nearly 10,000 people from a total of 240,000 tobacco producers in Bulgaria participate. The forecasts are for a yield of 250-290 kg/ha, which is 50 kg less since 2011 d. The expectations are similar for other varieties.
The production of “Basma” will be halved. There is growth in the “Virginia” variety, as it is on irrigated areas (7-8,000 tons). At the beginning of m. the buyout campaign should begin in November. In the next two weeks, Minister Miroslav Naydenov will be in Silistrensko for a meeting with tobacco producers, which will be the fourth time recently.
