Lola is an adorable 12 week old Chihuahua dog and weighs no more than 4 kilos.
It all happened so fast
A few days ago, while the dog was quietly in front of her house with her mistress, a hawk made a nose-down flight in an attempt to grab her in its claws. Lola had the reflex to go and hide in the nearest bushes to protect herself.
Fortunately, his mistress Kathryn Garver was not far away and she intervened as quickly as possible.
It all happened in half a second: the hawk rushed at the puppy at such speed that Kathryn couldn’t have stopped him from trying to steal the puppy.
Kathryn was really worried that the hawk would catch Lola for good. But luckily, the brave female dog was faster and the hawk went to roost in a tree a little further.
Very rare attacks
Teams from the Texas Wildlife Center have reported that fatal falcon attacks on dogs remain relatively rare. As a safety measure, they urged owners of small dogs not to leave them unattended in the area.
There are methods to protect smaller pets from hawk attacks. Among them: protecting your garden and yard, eliminating feeders or food in the yard that could initially attract rodents and therefore hawks in search of prey.
Some pet owners also dress their dogs in brightly colored vests to deter predators and hawks.
Fortunately more fear than harm ! Lola is now safe and sound and is recovering from her fear of her mistress.
