Palm tree taekwondo player Rosanna Simón Álamo and favorite daughter of her native municipality, Los Llanos de Aridane, announced on Friday her withdrawal from international competitions, in a ceremony held at the Benahorita Archaeological Museum in which it was announced that the athlete will give her name to a street in the town, in recognition of his more than 20 years of high performance career.
The event, which had limited capacity due to sanitary restrictions, was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Mariano H. Zapata, the insular councilor for Sports, Raúl Camacho; the mayor, Noelia García, the councilor for the government and regional deputy Lorena H. Labrador, and the councilors who are spokespersons for two other political groups: Robert Nazco (PSOE) and Felipe Ramos (IUC). Similarly, the head of the local Sports area, Víctor González, and the Department technician, Pedro Fermín Díaz, as well as family and friends of the champion attended.
At the meeting, the Aridanense councilor was in charge of announcing to the elite athlete that in the celebration of a Board of Spokespersons on an urgent basis last Wednesday, it was unanimously approved by all political forces to start the procedures so that the municipality has a street with the name of Rosanna Simón Álamo, which is expected to be located specifically in the neighborhood of Puerto Naos, where she is from and where she took her first steps in the aforementioned sporting discipline.
At the end of the tribute, Noelia García congratulated Rosanna for her tenacity and her great values, highlighting that “you are an example, because your story opens the possibility for many girls and boys from any family to know that it is possible to achieve dreams and goals, because raised in a working family nobody has given you anything; You have achieved everything thanks to your effort ”. “You are an example, because of your kindness, humility and closeness, and you are and will always continue to be an example, dear Rosanna. SPORTY CURRICULUM
Rosanna Simón Álamo was born on July 11, 1989 in Los Llanos de Aridane, and at the age of 14 she became one of the most outstanding athletes in the international arena in the modality of taekwondo.
He began to practice this discipline at the age of eight on the beach in the Puerto de Naos neighborhood, his birthplace. At the age of 13 he began to stand out in this sports modality, following in his footsteps as coach Pablo Barreto Gómez, until the Canary Islands coach Pedro Francisco González Cabrera said in her as one of the great promises of taekwondo not only in the Archipelago, but of the world.
Her precociousness in mastering martial arts as well as her innate qualities for sport would make her a serious candidate to represent Spain in international competitions. Obtaining, in this way, sporting successes as relevant as the Gold Medal in the Pre-Olympic European Championship held in Turkey in 2008, participating in August of the same year in the Beijing Olympics; Gold medal in the European Championship held in Saint Petersburg (Russia), or obtaining the Gold Medal in the World Taekwondo Championship that took place in Denmark in 2009. At 16 she was required by the National Federation of Taekwondo, entering the High Performance Center of San Cugat del Vallés, in Barcelona. This is where he has culminated his sports career, participating in numerous competitions and where he has obtained a podium in countries such as Belgium, Turkey, Poland, Latvia, France, Canada, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, China, Mexico, Morocco, Azerbaijan, England , Denmark or Russia, among others.
