The Ministry of Health inaugurated the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COESP), which will be in the facilities of the Medical Emergency System (SEM).
The Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, pointed out that the project has a cost of $130,000, which is financed thanks to the good relationship and permanent work maintained with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
“It is a joy to inaugurate these facilities, a reality that is done with tangible joy for the population and that will allow us to respond to any disease situation at an international level,” said Minister Alabi.
The COESP is a working group made up of highly trained doctors, who will work in coordination with the Health Sector Technical Commission. Currently, the theoretical framework is being built to facilitate work with the National Civil Protection System.
Among the functions of the COESP is to coordinate communication and collaboration between first response institutions, in addition to managing information on reported incidents to optimize the resources made available to the population.
Decision making is a key aspect in emergency care, which is why the COESP will have a monitoring center with which events that may affect public health will be followed up.
The work of the COESP will allow the Ministry of Health to better organize emergency response resources in the short term; In addition, to strengthen the knowledge of the staff by managing training.
“This joins an entire strategic plan in the health system that now has tools to provide direct care within the establishments of the Medical Emergency System,” Alabi stressed.
