Problems that are intended to be solved with the new standard
The document states that the Surveillance Network will be aimed at protecting health, preventing diseases in the population and organizing responses to minimize their impact, improving resource planning for the National Health System, defining of the priority lines of health research and to guarantee coordination and cooperation between health administrations to achieve the above purposes.

Royal Decree 2210/1995, of December 28, by which the National Epidemiological Surveillance Network was created, was proposed as an adaptation to the administrative changes after the entry of Spain into the EU, and laid the foundations that allowed the start of the transformation of the traditional surveillance system, with special emphasis on communicable diseases. But, in the current context, a new Public Health Surveillance Network must be developed, incorporating, in addition to the surveillance of communicable diseases, other systems and sources of information necessary to extend surveillance to all diseases and health problems. health and its determinants.
