The PtD will send a message to Erdogan, the EU requests the appointment of a UN envoy
The proceedings of its inaugural Session 78th General Assembly of the United Nations attended today by President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, while earlier he attended the reception given by the UN Secretary-General in honor of the leaders of the states participating in the General Assembly.
During today’s opening session, the UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres, the President of the USA Mr. Joe Biden, and the President of Turkey Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Subsequently, on the sidelines of the work, President Christodoulidis had a meeting with the President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel which was occupied by the efforts made to remove it deadlock in the Cyprus issueand the contribution of the European institutions in this direction.
The President of the Republic also had a short meeting with the President of the European Parliament Ms Roberta Metzola.
Afterwards, President Christodoulidis had separate meetings with the Director of the UN Sustainable Development Network, Dr. Jeffrey Sachswith the President of North Macedonia Mr. Stevo Pentarovsky and with the President of Moldova Ms Maya Sandou.
Later today (at 10pm Cyprus time), the President of the Republic will speak at the Summit of leaders on the topic of “Unity and Solidarity”, while in the evening, the President of the Republic and his wife Mrs. Filippa Karseras Christodoulidis will attend the reception hosted by President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden’s wife, to the heads of state participating in the UN General Assembly.
