The PtD is developing an initiative for a humanitarian corridor at the Paris Conference

The International Humanitarian Conference in Gaza is meeting today in Paris, during which the proposal of Cyprus to create a sea corridor for humanitarian aid to the civilian population will be discussed, amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas that has been ongoing for a month .

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, who has been in the French capital since last night, is expected to present the initiative, which provides for the creation of a maritime corridor through Cyprus, for the uninterrupted, safe and continuous provision of humanitarian aid, with the final destination being Gaza.

The conference, which will be held at the level of heads of state, government and foreign ministers, aims to discuss issues such as the restoration of water, fuel and electricity supplies, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

As the Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymiotis, has stated, the parameters of the initiative have been shaped after the contacts of President Christodoulidis with the President of Egypt, the King of Jordan, the Prime Minister of Israel, the President of the European Commission and the Secretary of State of the USA. but also the relevant contacts of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the Palestinian Authority, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan and officials of neighboring states.

Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, who will accompany President Christodoulides to Paris, also stated that through a non-paper, the Cypriot government has informed the US, EU countries, as well as other countries about the plans for the creation of the humanitarian corridor.

Speaking in the Parliament on Tuesday, the Foreign Minister stated that there are serious advantages for our country’s proposal, stressing at the same time that the safety of humanitarian aid should be ensured, both when it starts from Cyprus, during its transfer and its distribution to the citizens of Gaza.

In addition to the Foreign Ministry, the President of the Republic will be accompanied to Paris by the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Marilena Raunas and the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thessaly Salina Siabou.

After his participation in the conference in Paris, the President of the Republic will later depart for Athens, where the 1st Cyprus-Greece Intergovernmental Summit will take place.
