The PTB demanded on Monday the resignation “immediate” from the federal minister of public Health, Maggie De Block (Open Vld), after the revelation by the press of his refusal to renew the strategic stock of protective masks at the end of last year.
“According to the minister, for an investment of 100 million euros was out of the question. This is a decision irresponsible that we are paying today a high price,” said the leader of the group of the PTB in the House and national spokesperson of the party of the radical left, Raoul Hedebouw, in a press release.
“In recent weeks, the health care staff has been, every day, in the first line of the fight against the coronavirus, and that, without adequate protective equipment. For us, a minister of Health that systematically move economic considerations before the health protection of the population can no longer stay in place,” he added.
The PTB has also requested the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry to shed light on government decisions before and during the outbreak of coronavirus in our country.
The left party has again demanded that all internal documents be made public.
“However, it is now quite obvious that Maggie De Block can no longer retain his post as minister of Health. The last report of the GEES, the group of experts in charge of the strategy of déconfinement, is very clear : our country needs to prepare urgently a second wave of sars coronavirus. However, it is unthinkable to consider this new wave with a minister who multiplies errors”, stressed Mr. Hedebouw.
