General Secretariat of Mental Health
Books – Ahmed Gomaa:
Dr. Nemat Ali, head of the Psychological Emergency and Psychological Support Unit at the General Secretariat of Mental Health, advised the need to stop watching videos and pictures of destruction and killing that are being shown from the Gaza Strip in the midst of the war that the Israeli occupation army has been waging against the Strip for a month.
Ali said in an interview with Masrawy that will be published later: “We tell all people not to watch the videos of destruction and killing that are shown from Gaza, because those videos and images can remain in our memories for long periods after the video has finished showing, and thus leave negative and painful effects on them.”
She added: “People also have special feelings about the event and some thoughts may be generated that do not help them continue their daily lives.”
The official in charge of the Psychological Emergency Unit indicated that there is a hotline to provide awareness and assistance to those who need it in this difficult time, with the number “16328”, continuing: “The hotline is important if a person feels a crisis as a result of this event so that we can help him overcome it.”
She continued: “We provide “awareness” to the male and female survivors of the event, or those who view the photos in general, through specialized teams for the hotline of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, which operates 24 hours a day, where anyone requests to speak with a therapist to talk about… These events will find a specialist to answer all their questions.”
