The Socialist Senator Lourdes Retuerto has reminded his PP counterpart Francisco Bernabé that “from the Government of Spain the concern about the situation of the Mar Menor is maximum, and that they are going to invest 200 million euros for its regeneration: 100 million included in the regular budget and another 100 million from the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Funds ”.
Retuerto has replied in this way to Bernabé, who has warned that the “sole objective” of the secretary general of the PSRM and spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Assembly, Diego Conesa, It is “working to clear the name of Sánchez, not the Mar Menor”, according to the inaction of the Government of Sánchez.
“The Mar Menor is a fragile ecosystem that has suffered significant pressure and that it is necessary, for its recovery, coordination between all the competent administrations and the adoption of measures that contribute to eliminating the causes that directly affect its state” has affected Retuerto .
The socialist senator has also indicated that they are going to adopt other protection measures as “to indicate the maximum fertilization surpluses, wherever it is necessary to achieve the environmental objectives in the underground water masses of Campo de Cartagena and the Mar Menor lagoon”.
“The removal of sludge and dry land in accordance with the provisions of the current Coastal Law is a municipal responsibility, as well as maintaining the beaches and public bathing places in the proper conditions of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation,” stated Retuerto.
The Government of Spain, with its action, seeks to reduce the generation of pollutants by controlling the activities carried out in the basin, and those aimed at retaining and eliminating the entry of nutrients and other pollutants into the lagoon.
“The Ministry of Ecological Transition is working to stop the entry of sediments and nutrients with prevention measures at source, and for this it is necessary to improve the techniques and efficiency of agricultural fertilization that favor the basin itself to be able to retain and eliminate the nutrients ”, explained Retuerto.
