On October 15, the Ministry of Health, led by the socialist Ana Barceló, reversed the University Hospital of Torrevieja (the entire health department) to public health after 15 years with public-private management by Ribera Salud. Since then the problems have not ceased: with defaults and flight of professionals, with saturation and beds in the corridors, and the non-subrogation of many doctors.
What was not planned is that the local politicians of the PSOE justified this political operation publicly, even exposing manifest illegalities as workers without contract and remuneration. The local secretary of Militancy and Dynamization, Joaquín Cos, who presented the case of his own wife, did it yesterday in a local television program in Torrevieja.
From Health it has been justified at all times the decision in an ideological question: beyond the quality of service that can be provided (with Ribera he was at the head of the Community), it is a matter of equalizing management in all health departments under the premise that “you cannot do business with health” . Something that is incompatible with the existence of private health, although the public has to rely on it daily to reduce its waiting lists.
The case of his wife
Cos, at one point in the debate, confessed that his wife started working in the hospital (or in the department, he does not clarify) last November, just 15 days after the reversal carried out by his own party. And since then he has not signed any contract nor has he been paid for his work. Apparently, today “he has to go sign the contract.”
“It is not because above they do not want to pay, it is not because the Ministry does not want to pay, it is a question that right now the administrative issue in the hospital is collapsed, is collapsed,” said the local socialist leader.
The response was immediate from the lawyer and former PP councilor, Joaquín Albaladejo: “How is that? Do we have professionals in the health department working without pay and without signing a contract?“.
