The Municipal Socialist Group of El Paso regrets in a statement that “the mayor of the Canary Islands Coalition, Sergio Rodríguez, exhibits his undemocratic attitude and political arrogance in a municipal plenary session, not only vetoing the capacity of expression of the opposition representatives, but also offering incidentally a deplorable example before the citizens who follow the plenary sessions through the internet ”.
The socialists of El Paso indicate that “in the last ordinary plenary session, held last Thursday, the mayor closed the session with an intervention in which he directly attacked the PSOE of La Palma by a press release sent by the local socialist group in reference to an event held in the municipality, within the legitimate and democratic capacity of opposition groups to supervise government action ”.
“The mayor took advantage of the closing of the plenary session to attack the Socialist group and the PSOE of La Palma without giving the aforementioned opportunity to defend their position, as within a correct democratic attitude it would have been his responsibility to do the allusions made by the city councilor. . Suppressing the word of the legitimate representatives of the people in a plenary session is a democratic aberration that we are not willing to consent to out of respect for the institution and for the citizens ”, they say.
“The socialists of El Paso warn the mayor that with this attitude, if what he wants is to intimidate and silence the voice of the opposition, he is radically wrong. We will continue to be a critical voice in everything that we understand that we should intervene for the good of our municipality, whether the mayor likes it or not that we have a voice, ”they add.
The PSOE Pasense laments “the opportunism of the mayor to turn the municipal plenary session into a soliloquy as a showcase of his demagoguery, instead of a democratic space for dialogue, confrontation of ideas and opinions and a means to boost our municipality.”
Finally, they warn that “the mayor of El Paso is nobody to give a letter of ethical or moral legitimacy for a political party or a local group to address any situation it deems appropriate regarding the future of the life of a municipality. Perhaps we should remember scenes that took place during the confinement, starring the councilor, which would have been worth at least a public apology, so it is better to avoid the moral lessons that he intends to give from the Mayor’s chair ”, they conclude .
