Initial article: The representatives of the PSD-PNL-UMDR coalition from the reunited commissions for industries of the Parliament vote on Wednesday the new representative of the legislature in the Regulatory Committee of ANRE (Agency for Energy Regulation). However, the ruling coalition refused to call the four candidates for committee hearings.
The four candidates for the position are Iulian Iancu (PSD), Scarlat Iriza (advisor to the ANRE president), Florian Munteanu (supported by USR) and Victorel Florin Rădoi (director of ANRE).
According to G4Media, Iulian Iancu was supported by both PSD and Dan Voiculescu.
Cristina Prună, USR deputy, harshly criticized the fact that the four candidates were not summoned before the parliamentary commission for debates.
As for Iulian Iancu, there were debates in the public space after President Iohannis refused him as Deputy Prime Minister in 2018 on the grounds that “it would jeopardize the decisions taken by the Romanian state.” Why is this candidacy presented to us, especially since it received a rejection from the highest level? ”, Said Prună.
PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu asked the secret services a month ago for a point of view on the appointment of Iulian Iancu in the ANRE leadership, sources from the party’s leadership told News.ro.
In 2008, Iulian Iancu was described in the Wikileaks telegrams by his party colleague, Georgian Pop, as a “Gazprom-controlled” politician. Georgian Pop also said at the time, quoted by US officials, that Iulian Iancu “will support South Stream and Russia’s proposals for gas storage facilities in Mediaş, Moldova and Bucharest.”
USR claims that Iulian Iancu is “responsible for drafting several legislative changes that have led to the blocking of the Offshore Law and the withdrawal of investors from projects related to the exploitation of Black Sea gas.”
Last week, Iulian Iancu rejected allegations that he was controlled by Russia.
The position of ANRE leadership became vacant after the resignation of Alexandru Stănescu, the brother of PSD leader Paul Stănescu. Stanescu was appointed, although he had zero experience in the field of energy.
