The Provincial Council of Palencia has approved in its last session of the governing board the signing of a agreement with the Association of Friends of the Cinema of Palencia by which the cooperation of the provincial administration in expenses for the next celebration in May of the XXX International Film Festival of Palencia will be regulated.
The provincial institution will provide fourteen thousand euros —The same amount that was assigned in 2020— to the organizing body of this cultural cycle, initially scheduled for the last days of February and the first week of March. However, the Association of Friends of the Cinema of Palencia decided to postpone the celebration to the month of May —from 14 to 22—, due to the current epidemiological situation, in order to reduce the uncertainty that hung over the program due to the restrictions of social gatherings to stop contagion.
The president of the Provincial Council, Ángeles Armisén, and the president of the Association of Friends of Cinema of Palencia, Pedro Rodríguez Villarroel, will soon sign this agreement, by virtue of which the provincial administration will advance fourteen thousand euros to subsidize expenses derived from the XXX International Film Festival of Palencia, except those that respond to inventory material and those that have a protocol nature. For its part, the association undertakes to disseminate the sample among schoolchildren, both in the capital and throughout the province.
The Diputación de Palencia thus supports one of the cultural cycles of May, tradition and popular follow-up of all that are celebrated in this province, with which a large number of public and private entities also collaborate. The program includes the screening of short films, documentaries, independent cinema and films aimed at children, and also extends to other cultural disciplines (music, plastic arts …) related to cinematography.
Support for cinematographic activities is one of the main lines of action of the Diputación de Palencia through its Culture Service. In addition to this agreement for the International Film Festival, the provincial administration maintains another two with the Aguilar de Campoo City Council to co-sponsor the Film Festival held in this town; and for the support of the Cine Amor Cultural Space.
Likewise, the Provincial Council grants each year a subsidy to the Cine Club Calle Ma-yor, it also celebrates annually at the Provincial Cultural Center a film exhibition on archeology – which in 2019 reached its seventh edition -, within the cycle Cultura a la romana; and outdoor film projections have been one of the pillars of its summer cultural programming in rural municipalities for years, Espiga cultural
