The province of Punjab is fully occupied / Article

The Taliban, the radical Islamist movement that took power in Afghanistan, said on Monday that it had “fully occupied” the province of Punjab, Afghanistan’s last non-Taliban province.

“With this victory, our country has been completely removed from the swamp of war,” Zabihullah Mujahideen, the Taliban’s senior spokesman, said in a statement.

In a statement, Mujahideen sought to encourage the people of the province to say that they would be safe, while the media reported that many people had fled to the mountains before the Taliban arrived.

“We fully guarantee the honorable people of Punjab that they will not be discriminated against, that they are all our brothers and that we will serve the country and common goals,” Mujahide said in a statement.

Thousands of Taliban have entered eight districts of the province on Monday night, witnesses in the region told the Associated Press.

Taliban opponents are led by former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh and son of the legendary 80- and 90s resistance commander Ahmadshah Masud.

Following the flight of Afghan President Ashraf Gani, Saleh declared himself interim president.

Back on Sunday evening, the National Front for Resistance (NPF), an Taliban opponent of the Taliban, which fought against the Taliban, called on the Islamist movement for a ceasefire.

The NPF includes former Afghan Army soldiers, including special task force soldiers, and local fighters.

On Sunday, the media reported that in the province of Punjab, north of Kabul, Taliban fighters are moving fast.

The withdrawal of the US-led international coalition force was used to the advantage of the Taliban, which regained control of more and more areas of Afghanistan.
