Protests against the curfew and mobility restrictions left numerous riots in Murcia and Cartagena early Saturday to Sunday, as well as three arrests in the port city for confronting the police.
The protests, called by social networks throughout Spain, leave numerous damage to urban furniture in the city of Murcia, where several dozen young people overturned, dragged and burned containers in the area of Plaza Circular, Ronda de Levante and Juan XXIII.
Several videos show the indignation of the neighbors at the violent attitude of these protesters, who committed their acts shouting Freedom!
The Murcia Local Police reports that last night they filed twenty complaints for breaching the curfew, and that a device was established at midnight in the Plaza Circular after learning that a “meeting” had been organized there. Police sources add that thanks to the collaboration with the National Police “the group was dissolved,” which was made up of about 50 people.
For tonight, a special device has been established to avoid altercations during the curfew, after the one that occurred last night.
In Cartagena, the incidents took place in the Plaza de España, where some thirty young people also gathered to demand that the restrictions imposed by the different governments be eliminated to stop the advance of the pandemic. The demonstration here resulted in three detainees who confronted the police.
Some groups of young people also took to the streets of the neighborhoods of Cartagena, where they set fire and overturned several containers, in La Vaguada, El Bohío, Las Seiscientas and the Santa Lucía neighborhood where a group of people threw stones at the firefighters who were preparing to put out a fire in some containers.
Juan Pedro Torralba, Councilor for Citizen Security of the Cartagena City Council has stated that in the afternoon there were groups of young people in different areas and neighborhoods of Cartagena who threw eggs and fireworks for the celebration of Halloween.
The councilor recalled that 55 complaints were filed yesterday for breaching the COVID regulations and that there were quite a few calls from citizens denouncing the celebration of parties in private homes.
