Judge Petar Santirov ordered the prosecutor’s office to pay him compensation in the amount of BGN 300,000 for damages caused to him as a result of a bribery case, in which he was acquitted at three instances. This became known from the decision of the Court of Appeal – Sofia, the website reports defakto.bg. Santirov for the second time convicted the state prosecution of damages at second instance. Initially, the Sofia Court of Appeals awarded him BGN 200,000, but then the Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) returned the case for a medical examination. The trial will continue again in the Supreme Court of Cassation.

This is another convicting decision on a lawsuit filed under the State and Municipal Liability for Damages Act (SMLDA) over the landmark case against former Defense Minister Nikolay Tsonev, financier Tencho Popov and Judge Santirov, in which all three were finally acquitted and the Supreme Court The court noted that the case was “emblematic of a provocation to bribe”, and the action was staged and carried out by the then Sofia investigator Petyo Petrov, known as the Euro.

The case became famous with the remark of the then Deputy City Prosecutor Roman Vassilev to Nikolay Tsonev – “absolute criminal”, as well as with his words: “Today we will crucify three – a judge of the Sofia City Court, a former minister and a former chief secretary of The Ministry of Finance under the previous government. “

Santirov stated in his appeal to the court that he had been removed from office because of the accusation against him, and all his property had been seized and confiscated, and so far one of his properties has been seized. The judge stated that he had been isolated professionally and socially, that he had not allowed himself to visit public places and places, and that he had appeared in public and commented on them. In addition to our personal complaints, he also experienced complaints about his children – whether they will survive on the stage in view of their rise.

Santirova’s claim is for compensation of BGN 500,000. The appellate judges accept that the accusation brought against Santirov has seriously affected his reputation, honor, prestige and trust in him.
