District Prosecutor’s Office-Yambol submitted to the court a request to take a measure of remand “detention in custody” in relation to the Turkish citizen A.C. He is accused of having smuggled 10 combat pistols and 15 empty magazines for them. The crime was committed on August 28, 2024 at the Lesovo border crossing. It is qualified under Art. 242, paragraph 1, b. “d” from NC.
The firearms were found by customs officers from the Anti-Narcotics Department during an inspection of a lorry. They were found in a bag of clothes hidden in a trailer with a transported machine – a concrete pump.
The inspection was carried out as part of the ongoing joint anti-smuggling operation, with the participation of teams from the Customs Agency, DG Border Police, DG Combating Organized Crime and the National Revenue Agency.
It was established that on the above-mentioned date, a truck with an open platform arrived on an inbound route from Turkey to Bulgaria. The cargo was a packed machine – a concrete pump with a destination from Turkey to Germany. The driver has announced that there is nothing else to declare except the transported machine. During the subsequent customs inspection of the cargo, inspectors found a bag of clothes attached to the front of the trailer, under the tarp on the machine and fastened with a belt. Polythene bags with 10 combat pistols and 15 empty magazines for them were found among the clothes in the jacket.
District Court-Yambol has scheduled its session for 30.08.2024 at 2:30 p.m.
We remind you that another 10 contraband combat pistols with empty magazines were discovered by the customs officers of the Lesovo checkpoint in recent days also in an unusual hiding place – in a backpack in a refrigerator with food products in the driver’s cabin of a truck. The investigation in this case continues, and the driver has been placed under permanent detention at the request of the Yambol District Prosecutor’s Office.
