The prosecutor’s office is investigating a crime committed in connection with the wanted jeep former finance minister Vladislav Goranov tried to cross the border into Serbiareports “Now”, citing information from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office. It is not known which structure the official is from.
Deputy City Prosecutor Desislava Petrova commented to the media that the case started on January 6 for “for the period from March 6, 2020 to December 20, 2021 in Sofia an official violated or failed to perform his official duties, or has exceeded his authority or rights in order to gain for himself or for another benefit, or to cause harm to others, and this has resulted in significant harmful consequences. “
On December 17, 2021, the former Minister of Finance from GERB Vladislav Goranov entered the Kalotina border crossing in a Toyota jeep (initially the information was for BMW) in the direction of Serbia, and during the border check it turned out that the car he was driving was declared to search. Border guards informed Goranov that there was a problem with the car and asked him to stop by and wait for a detailed inspection. However, he made a U-turn and returned to the interior of the country. Two days later Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov announcedthat the jeep was wanted by Interpol at the request of Russia.
Then Goranov said that the car was bought brand new from “Moto Pfohe” in March 2020 and was registered by the importer in the traffic police. The head of “Moto Pfohe” Atanas Furnadzhiev commented that the jeep is regular and all documents are available, and someone made a duplicate of this car and he was declared wanted by Russia.
Goranov is a former finance minister from GERB. On March 17 he was arrested for 24 hours by the Interior Ministry with data on extortion and on the occasion of the report of the State Financial Inspection, which found that the state had failed to collect BGN 550 million in gambling revenues, as businessman Vasil Bozhkov was allowed to pay at a lower rate. The next day, Goranov was released together with party leader Boyko Borissov and his publicist Sevdelina Arnaudova. The prosecutor’s office ruled that there was not enough evidence to extend the remand measure.
