Nature, culture, good life, gastronomy … The Center-Val de Loire region is far from the sea and the mountains but it has other arguments to make.
Its cultural heritage was particularly highlighted in 2019 through more than 700 events organized as part of the 500 years of the Renaissance.
That year saw a record attendance with more than 11 million visitors. Last year, after confinement, the Loire by bike saved the season with an influx that had never reached this level.
The seven candidates for the presidency of the Center-Val de Loire region
Tourism is an economic activity that matters. Around three billion euros in a “normal” year (without Covid or exceptional events).
As the Regions are responsible for economic development and the territory’s attractiveness as their mission, the candidates for the regional elections next June have therefore integrated proposals concerning tourism into their project. Here they are…
Francois Bonneau (PS, PCF, PRG, MR,
Cap ecology, The New Democrats)
“Our goal: to welcome 15 million tourists?! Become the leading region for sustainable tourism, develop cycle tourism circuits and services, launch a support plan for tourism professionals to invest, innovate, train and recruit, expand a year-round offer of 2,000 events combining art, entertainment, heritage, gastronomy, science, etc. with the Nouvelles Renaissances, create adapted routes and eco-mobility services around our sites, writers, gardens, festivals, etc., create a Discovery Pass at attractive prices, particularly for residents. “

Christelle de Crémiers and Jérémy Clément
(EcoLogical Democracy citizen list)
“The ecological transition of tourism stakeholders, as well as the networking of cycle paths, will be pursued through the creation of regional tourism projects. The benefits of tourism must be accessible to all regions, with or without the Loire castle. The effort of regional producers and restaurateurs to offer “naturally” good products and meals, without chemical additives, is highlighted by the new regional food brand CduCentre that we will develop. “
–
Marc Fesneau (Modem, LREM, Act)
“We will make our proximity to the capital an asset for develop short-term resorts, focused on gastronomy, a return to nature and French history, which will also benefit our rurality. Support for accommodation providers, development of the offer, networking of players and discovery circuits in each territory will be our priorities. Let us be proud of what has been bequeathed to us, pass it on and carry on the tradition of this land of innovation that is ours. Being at the heart of France is, fundamentally, our true regional identity. “
–
Nicolas forissier (LR, UDI, NC,
Rurality movement and independents)
“We will create an investment fund. It will make it possible to support local or regional and national initiatives. We will also intervene, with this fund, for the restoration of classified or registered historic monuments. We must welcome more visitors in helping to modernize and bring accommodation up to standard, and by developing a exceptional communication plan in 2022, aimed at a national and international clientele. We will also promote roaming tourism (hiking, cycling, horse riding). “
–
Charles Fournier (EELV, LFI, ND, Génération.S, Génération écologie, Allons enfants, Ensemble ?!)
“An objective : strengthen the tourist and leisure offer “softness, nature and culture” around gardens, the art of living and gentle itineraries (cycling, hiking, inland waterways, kayaking, horse …). To do this, several measures: continue the development of routes and cycling loops in all regions, support associations and communities that develop events linking artistic projects and remarkable gardens, support tourism players to combine revival and ecological transformation on the renovation, entertainment and hospitality projects, leisure and holidays for all in Center-Val de Loire… “
–
Farida Megdoud (Workers’ struggle)
“Tourism operates thanks to workers with various jobs: guides, employees in hotels or restaurants … A large number of them are precarious, seasonal workers, sometimes undocumented. Public money, and that of the profits, should be used to allow all these workers to live decently all year round. The popular or disadvantaged classes have less access than others to leisure and culture. Access to cultural places should be made free for as many people as possible, and the means to get there should also be free..”

Aleksandar Nikolic (RN)
“We will create a great festival of canals which will be held every summer. On the program: open-air cafes, concerts, theater, gastronomic discoveries on the river, illuminations, night visits to museums and heritage sites … But our greatest ambition is the creation of a Leonardo da Vinci Park, near Orléans. Dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, his inventions and those of the future with an innovation component to attract businesses, it is a project that will have a tourist, economic and industrial impact in Center-Val de Loire “.
