The Héraultais Alexandre Thouroude has created his own estate not far from Beaulieu. He cultivates 12 ha organically on the foothills of the Cévennes. Its first vintage released in 2021 augurs well for the future.
He lives in the Hérault and cultivates his vines in the Gard. Alexandre Thouroude, once director of the Grés de Montpellier, crossed the Rubicon to become a winegrower. The former fighter pilot found his happiness on a plateau, one hundred meters above sea level, above Cannes and Clairan. He took advantage of a retirement to realize his dream after nineteen years in the Air Force. “I was flying a Mirage 2000 in a fighter squadron. I’ve always been a wine lover. When I quit, a friend told me, why don’t you become a winemaker.” With his viti-oeno diploma in his pocket, Alexandre Thouroude worked in different fields before launching himself.
12 hectares in bio
He cultivates 12 hectares organically by applying the precepts of biodynamics. The new winegrower is looking into the properties of garrigue essences with his accomplice Olivier Durand, president of Les Grés, to test them in the form of a decoction in the vines. Its first vintage was bottled in 2021. Five cuvées are already on sale, four others are still in aging. Nine cuvées in the three colors vinified in IGP Cévennes, AOP Languedoc and AOP Languedoc-Sommières. Their characteristic: “Their picobality index!” jokes the winemaker. “I like sapid wines with mouth-watering structure that makes you salivate.” Fruit and spices combine with finesse and elegance. The signature of great wines.
