Mr. Angeloudis did not hesitate to point out delays on the part of the Ministry of Environment, stating that the matter has remained stagnant for five months, despite the relevant meetings that had preceded it.
The figures show that in 2022 in Northern Greece only 350 cremations took place, a number insufficient for the sustainability of the project. To make such a Center viable, cremations would have to reach 1,200 per year.
In addition, the only crematorium currently operating in Greece is located in Ritsona, Evia, at a cost of approximately 1,400 euros per ceremony, including all expenses. This makes investing in a second Center in Thessaloniki financially unprofitable for private investors, at least for now.
