On December 17, the tenth edition of Capital Encounters in alliance with SOLE Colombia and the UN, to inquire about what public television is, what its functions are and what themes or characters should be present in its programming.
The forum was moderated by Sanjay fernandez, Director of SOLE Colombia and with the guests: Jimena hurtado, Professor of Economics; Andres Berrío, Teacher of Natural Sciences; Jim Michael Bejarano, Bachelor and Marcela benavides, Leader of Capital content.
The question to start that great conversation was: If you could make your dream show on public television, what would it be like?
“Television was like a window of connection with others, it would be good to return to that style that allowed people to share those same spaces of interaction in which they talked about what happened and what could happen in the next chapter , to generate that expectation, that desire for communication and that window on possibilities that I now think we have a little less … some suspense and expectation but let us know and contact us ”, assured Jimena Hurtado. While Jim proposes that a program be made that brings the whole family together at the same time, that it be an inclusive but sincere program with different themes.
Regarding the current proposal of Capital Public Communication system, Marcela Benavides assured “the bet is to have citizenship at the center, which means being able to count on citizens not only as sources or as protagonists, but also as co-creators whom we can consult, as is being done at this time, so that people vote for ideas and that all that serves to nurture the programming ”.
In addition to the rhythm of the narrative richness that a content may have, emotional or affective bonding is important, despite how different people are, they all have problems, illusions and dreams in common. The downside is that no one knows what is on public television, so Marcela asks the question: how can we make people value, know and appreciate public television?
The main ideas of this meeting left between seeing that “public television is the meeting place of our society to meet again as a society,” said Andrés.
While Jim explained that if public television wants to become something much stronger and more powerful, it must use the opinions of all citizens and everything that they want to express and interest will be generated there.
“We have to make public television fashionable to recover what is public,” Jimena Hurtado reaffirmed. “Claiming the commitment of the citizens of the center and of collective intelligence, is to be able to count on citizens through different experiences in solving problems so that we can build content that is of interest to everyone”, concluded Marcela Benavides.
