The program “Hear the Voices with Kārlis Kazāks” will get to know the diversity of Latvian society in the new season / Article / LSM.lv

In November, the new season of the program “Hear the Voices with Kārlis Kazāks” will reach the viewers of Latvian Television (LTV). The stories filled with music, conversations and humanity will introduce Ukrainians, Roma, Georgians, Jews, Poles living in Latvia and one of Latvia’s main nations – the Livs.

“In last season’s programs on the dialects of our language, I tried to grasp, understand and weave into music the surprising diversity of our own or Latvian.

This year, together with the fantastic program team, we managed to experience a long-cherished dream – to get closer to the richness of all of us or Latvian society.

The people and stories I meet make it easier for me to overcome my own stereotypes about diversity as a threat to the Latvian. Both during the filming of the shows and by working with people in the songwriting process, I further strengthened my conviction that our diversity is a value. How much, respecting both our common language and our own language, culture, religion and traditions, we become interesting to each other, ”Kārlis Kazāks looks back.

Also in the new season, the show’s director and musician Kārlis Kazāks has turned into what he discovered and experienced during the production of each series. This time – in close cooperation with people of familiar nationalities – the author’s songs have been enriched both with words in different languages and a special musical sound. Composer, cellist and multi-instrumentalist Kārlis Auzāns also played an important role in creating the sound of songs and in the recording process.

About the collaboration and experience in the studio, the musician says: “It is very interesting for me to work on such a project, because world music has always been a source of inspiration for my compositions. Kārlis Kazāks has his own handwriting, which could be called a “modern Latvian singer”.

Therefore, it is both a challenge and a passion for me to create a new and unheard sound by intertwining the Latvian singer with the ethnic music of various other nations. ”

Series 1 of the series will reach viewers on November 19 at 7.30 pm. The first series will lead in musical, heartfelt and quite incredible stories about Ukrainians in Latvia. The large Ukrainian community in Latvia surprises with its multiplicity, organization, care for traditions and meeting place Kolotilovka right on the outskirts of Riga.

“What I learned and saw during the creation of the program caused me surprises and countless questions. We have also asked some of these questions to the people we met during the production, but we will have to answer some of the questions ourselves. I really hope that the viewer of Latvian Television will be happy to watch the new programs, seeing Latvia more beautiful and richer, ”calls the presenter of the program.

The project is implemented with the support of the State Cultural Capital Fund target program “Latvia – 100”.

“Hear the voices with Kārlis Kazāks” – from Thursday, November 19 at 7.30 pm on LTV1 and REPLAY.lv.
