The promised celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the original Subaru Impreza special for rallies is here. The British company Prodrive, which then built that special, is coming up with the P25 model. It is deliberately indistinguishable from the famous two-door impregnation 22B.

The Impreza 22B was essentially the civilian equivalent of the WRC97 competition event, which Prodrive introduced in September 1997. It was in this car that Colin McRae became famous and Subaru won the Constructors’ Cup with it.

The company says about the novelty that it is a reincarnation of the 22B impregnation as it would look today – at least apart from the design, which has remained essentially unchanged. However, the bowels were fundamentally reworked.

The basis of the car is a two-door Subaru Impreza WRX of the first generation, not a rare version of the 22B. Prodrive will replace the original 2.2-liter boxer with a modern one with a volume of 2.5 liters, which after major modifications gives more than four hundred horses and 600 Nm.

The car has a launch control system derived from that used in the rally. There is also the origin of anti-lag – a system which, by injecting fuel into the exhaust line, keeps the turbocharger rotated when the pilot releases gas, for example for shifting.

Together with a six-speed semi-automatic transmission, the P25 can accelerate to 100 in 3.5 seconds. The fact that the transmission has an electronically controlled clutch helps and that the driver does not have to shift to second or third quality when starting sharply – the electronics take care of everything.

Of course, there is a permanent all-wheel drive, which has self-locking differentials on both axles. The center differential allows the driver to adjust the clutch manually. The stiffness of Bilstein shock absorbers is also adjustable, the brakes were supplied by AP Racing.

Thanks to a number of body panels replaced by carbon cars, it weighs less than 1,200 kg. Another weight saving can be the replacement of the rear seats with a protective frame and the front seats with lighter shells. The carmaker has not yet published photos of the interior, but says that the instrument panel is replaced by a display and the upholstery is a combination of leather, alcantara and carbon.

The P25 will also be presented at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood, where the development prototype will cross the race track several times. The first of the customer cars, which costs from 460 thousand pounds (13.3 million crowns) without taxes and will be registered for road traffic in the UK, is to be completed by the end of this year.
