After trying a solution to return on Thursday, either chartering a new aircraft or using a regular flight, the delegation from Palmeiras went by bus to Cali, in a trip of just over 200km, to then take a new flight, in a plane different.

With that, the palm trees only arrives in São Paulo this Friday. Thus, Abel Ferreira and his coaching staff will only have Saturday as a full day of preparation for Sunday’s duel against Vasco.

It’s possible that this change in schedule also alters Abel’s plans. In the press conference after the thrashing on Wednesday, the coach from Palmeiras was asked if the great advantage built in Libertadores could provide a better starting lineup against Vasco, but he deviated.

– I always say that to you and to them (players), that I only know how to play and train at maximum strength. I can’t be half-assed. Being intense, people confuse arrogance with competence, boring with being demanding, but that’s my way of being. I’m glad the players understand that the only option is to be better as players and as a team. I only know how to train to win, and play to win.

The possible change in strategy, which could spare more important and worn out players, against Vasco, is due to the fact that Abel knows the difference there is in a preparation with two or three days of interval between matches.

– It makes a tremendous difference to have two or three days (of recovery) – said Abel, in June, after the classification of the palm trees in the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil.

Thinking, then, about maximum strength and about training to win and playing to win, Abel Ferreira can give specific pieces a rest. The coach doesn’t usually change the whole team.

In the last three games in the Brasileirão, Abel made occasional changes. Against Fluminense, between the duels against Atlético-MG in Conmebol Libertadores, the palm trees had Vanderlan, Jailson, Luis Guilherme, Breno Lopes and Endrick as starters.

Against Cruzeiro, post-Atlético-MG, the changes were minor: Lomba in goal, Vanderlan on the side and Jhon Jhon in front. Against Cuiabá, the last match in the competition, Luan played in the defense, Jhon Jhon remained in the team and Flaco López was also in the starting line-up.
