The Problem of Djoko Tjandra, Former Dirdik Called the Office of the Indonesian Attorney General

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Former Director of the Attorney General’s Investigation, Chairul Imam assessed AGO cheated by fugitive escapees Djoko Tjandra.

He considered one of the aspects that caused the fraud was due to the weakness of intelligence in the prosecutor’s office.

“Yes, because the weakness was finally missed,” Chairul said in a discussion in Jakarta, Saturday (7/18).

According to Chairul, the AGO should continue to monitor Djoko Tjandra’s movements. Starting from the existence, including monitoring whether the person concerned plans to enter Indonesia or not.

“But it seems that it was not followed and after he entered Indonesia it turned out we were at the door too,” he said. During his experience at the AGO, said Chariul, there were actually no problems in pursuing fugitives.

Chairul mentioned several times the AGO succeeded in bringing fugitives from abroad. In fact, from countries that do not have extradition agreements with Indonesia.

“Places that don’t have an extradition agreement with us, we can succeed. So I don’t know why this is happening now, I myself have been out of the prosecutor’s office for a long time,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Center, Hari Setiyono said that the search for convicts, defendants, or suspects is not an easy thing.

He said, the AGO could only be said to have been cheated or conceded if Djoko Tjandra’s whereabouts were known but could not be captured.

“But if you don’t know, then the person is really what is meant is what we are looking for, then with the information, so far we are still clarifying the truth,” Hari said.

Djoko Tjandra was known to roam in Indonesia without being noticed by law enforcement officials. He was said to have made a KTP and submitted a review (PK) at the South Jakarta District Court on June 8.

Later, Djoko was found to have gotten a road certificate and a corona-free letter from the police. The National Police is investigating the involvement of a number of generals in Djoko Tjandra’s escape.
