The government of François Legault provides for greater integration of the private sector in the plan to overhaul health in Quebec. It would thus be 20% of the solution, to make the network more efficient, which would go through the private sector in the province, in particular because of the assistance provided during the pandemic. While some people believe that this integration is indeed the most appropriate solution for better efficiency in health care, others deplore the fact that it will only accentuate the lack of personnel in the public network.

For the president of the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ), Julie Bouchard, having more recourse to the private network is not at all the solution.
Once again, we put the private front, while the real issue [ce sont] front line care
, she says. Julie Bouchard also believes that the question of equity in health care must be taken into account more in the current situation, beyond efficiency.
For his part, Dr. Pascal-André Vendittoli, orthopedic surgeon at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, who also practices in a private clinic, believes that the private sector complements the public sector.
My opinion is that we must give people a free choice. I think it’s healthy, because the public network, if it doesn’t have a comparison, it won’t progress
he believes.
For the researcher Maude Laberge, professor of health economics at Laval University, the debate should be refocused, not by putting the private and public sectors in duality, but rather by turning it towards the values of accessibility and equity of care.
