It is equipment costing more than 200,000 euros that the private Saint-François hospital in Désertines has just acquired. The Navio® robot, by the Englishman Smith & Nephew, arrived in May 2021 in the establishment, which has become the sixth in France to be equipped with this revolutionary technology in knee surgery.
A trial phase in December 2020 on thirty patients
And this is the keystone of the new orthocenter of the private hospital, which was built with the arrival, in early 2020, of Dr. Nicolas Caumon, 40 years old. The orthopedic surgeon, specialist in the hip, knee (osteoarthritis and sports) and foot, was trained in the use of the robot, a year and a half ago, in England. A trial phase carried out in December 2020 concerned thirty patients. Conclusive:
On partial dentures, the results are excellent. One patient recovered after a month, compared to two to three months before. I had never seen this with conventional surgery. On total dentures, the results are also very good and more reliable.

400,000 euros for all the equipment
The service also has two helmets equipped with cameras, a telescope and seven cryotherapy devices. The whole, with the robot, represents an investment of 400,000 euros.
Investment amortized by activity. The additional cost of 300 to 400 € per surgery linked to the use of the robot is not passed on to the patient. He is absorbed by the private hospital. The investment will be amortized by the increase in activity.
In 2020, two hundred prostheses were placed within the establishment, against fifty in 2019. In 2021, to date, the site already has nearly two hundred implants.
