To express the opposition to the use of the gym in via Natta for vaccinations is Stella Perrone, school director of the Alfieri institute who is the spokesperson for a shared need with colleagues that the school office reported in a shared document arrived in the recent days on the desk of the President of the Province Paolo Lanfranco.
“When I received the request from the ASL I immediately activated to consult the school managers and understand the needs of the schools. The managers expressed their opposition for a series of reasons related to teaching and the lack of spaces that we communicated to the ASL – explains Paolo Lanfranco, president of the Province – we understand the need to identify spaces for vaccinations in this period of emergency and we are at your complete disposal to collaborate in identifying other spaces. So far, apart from the request for availability of the gym, we have not been involved in any reasoning ».
The director of the Alfieri Perrone institute explained the critical issues: “We learned from the newspaper that the gym in via Natta had been chosen by the Municipality and the ASL as a suitable space for vaccinations – continues Perrone – when the Province asked us we pointed out a series of critical issues and objective problems “. Then he goes to the point: «The gym has been used since mid-September, with the exception of the lockdown period by the Alfieri Institute, the Castigliano Institute and the Monti high school. In total there are 42 hours per week, only for my institute which includes Classical, Artistic and Sella are 26 hours. Among other things, we had another gym that we had to sacrifice to ensure the distance, transforming it into a classroom. We want to point out that motor and sports activity is in effect a curricular discipline and that we are required by law to guarantee families a certain number of hours in the training offer plan. To allow other institutes to use it, we have also sacrificed a few afternoons ». And he continues: «Given that the school year is now in progress, it is difficult to reschedule the training offer. It should also be considered the deficit situation of Asti, lacking in gyms and sports facilities. Unmanageable situation weighed down by the necessary building sites that affect Castigliano, one of the few schools in Asti equipped with systems. Which means that four out of eight high schools in Asti do not have gym space ».
The gym in via Natta had been identified by the ASL because due to its structure, accesses, dimensions and systems, it would not have required major interventions for setting up the vaccine point. «The Province has denied the ASL the gym – says the mayor Maurizio Rasero – I showed the ASL various solutions, such as the Dalla Chiesa gym in Corso Alba.
