It is possible that epidemiological safety measures have been violated in Riga Secondary School No. 71, the mayor of Riga Mārtiņš Staķis (APP) has revealed on the microblogging site “Tvitter”.
The politician pointed out that the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Riga City Council is investigating suspicions of gross violations of epidemiological safety in Riga Secondary School No. 71. “If the suspicion is confirmed, the consequences will be! Let’s explain the situation,” writes Stack.
He also regretted that the warnings did not lead to conclusions.
Latvian Television (LTV) reports that the investigation was started about the actions of Andrejs Rižikovs, the director of Riga Secondary School No. 71, when the patient went to work and possibly caused a Covid-19 outbreak at school. According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), Covid-19 is currently diagnosed in eight employees and teachers of Riga Secondary School No. 71.
An anonymous person told LTV that the principal arrived at the school with symptoms from October 12 to 16. The director had a runny nose, fever, cough and a “jacket feeling”. During the autumn holidays, Rizhikov finally performed Covid-19 tests and the disease was revealed. The anonymous employee expressed anger both at the fact that Rižikovs had come to work sick of others and at the fact that he did not try to inform his colleagues about his illness, who had only learned from the SPKC about the need to check and exercise caution.
Taking into account the prevalence of Covid-19 in Riga Secondary School No. 71, students will continue their studies remotely. The school staff and teachers have asked the principal to provide at least saliva tests for everyone, but the school principal has rejected the request. Currently, school staff and teachers apply for Covid-19 tests themselves.
As confirmed to LETA by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, information has been received about possible violations. The situation is explained.
The municipality has announced a remote press conference tomorrow at 10.30, which will be attended by Staķis and Māris Krastiņš, Director of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Riga City Council.
The information available on the website of the department shows that the school implements a special basic education program for students with mental disabilities, movement disorders, etc.
LETA failed to contact the school director Rižikovs.
