Pursuant to Article 111, para. 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov submitted to the newly elected 45th National Assembly the resignation of the Council of Ministers headed by him.
The letter of Prime Minister Borissov, with which he resigned from the cabinet, was submitted today to the Speaker of the National Assembly through the offices of the two institutions.
In accordance with Art. 111, para. 3 of the Constitution, the government led by Prime Minister Borissov will continue to perform its functions until the election of a new Council of Ministers and will achieve continuity in governance.
The information about the resignation was announced by the host of the first official sitting of the parliament, Mika Zaykova. The news was loudly applauded by MPs.
This is either a shame for the people and for you – to come here and resign, or it is a disregard for this institution. However, we are a parliamentary republic, added Mika Zaykova.
Parliament accepted the resignation of the Council of Ministers.
We remind you that the resigned Prime Minister Borissov also resigned from his seat.
Yesterday, Boyko Borissov announced at an extraordinary briefing the candidate for prime minister, nominated by the GERB party – Daniel Mitov. Borissov nominated Tsveta Karayancheva as Speaker of the National Assembly. The chairman of the GERB / UDF parliamentary group will be Desislava Atanasova, deputies – Rumen Hristov / UDF /, Alexander Nenkov and Toma Bikov from GERB, and Evgenia Alekseeva will be the secretary of the group.
