Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama described Bulgaria as a “man with problems” and noted that if the “EU bride” is ready for a wedding with the “groom of the Balkans”, the countries of the peninsula are ready to wait, but if she is not ready, they will cope. with this.
He made the verbal attack on our country as part of his address at the summit of the Open Balkans initiative in Ohrid.
“So don’t take this wedding with a lot of stress and give it to us (the bride). Bulgaria is also a man with problems. If they want a wedding we are here, if they don’t want we are ready for that. Now is the time to end this stress – they called us, shouted, did not want, want.
It is important that things are done. When Bulgaria is done with this logic, it will end this game, throw this doll and the negotiations will begin. Here we are talking about starting negotiations and they will end when the current prime minister becomes a grandfather, an elderly man.
“We want to continue the negotiations, we want to be part of the EU,” the Albanian prime minister was quoted as saying by Skopje’s 360 Degrees TV.
“I say wedding because every time the European Council comes, we prepare for the wedding. Albania is no longer preparing for a wedding.
If it happens, we will go as we are dressed, we will not be solemn, there will be no orchestra, we will not spend on banquets and weddings, so that no one comes after the bride or groom. Open Balkans is the groom and the bride is the EU.
This is bad for us, it would be better if we were a bride, they would take us faster. When you are a person with so many problems, with such a past, this is a big problem.
But our path is very clear – we want to build Europe here, our systems of functioning and then when they want a wedding, we will be ready, “said Eddie Rama.
He emphasized the support he received from EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varheli and US Special Representative for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar, as well as from representatives of Montenegro and BiH in Ohrid.
He recalled that this was the first such summit since the start of the war in Ukraine, which he said did not surprise everyone, noting that what can be said from this distance is that the war in Ukraine makes “Open Balkans ”greater need than before.
“The war in Ukraine did not show us what the relations between Serbia and Russia are, that there is a certain history, or that there is an unresolved dispute between Serbia and Kosovo, we knew all this before. But we remained committed to the future.
We are here today precisely because we want to move on to the future without closing our eyes to unresolved issues, convinced that they will only be resolved if we take care of each other and understand better every day how important we are to each other. ” Rama said.
