Minister of Higher Education: Linking scientific research with industry is on our priority agenda

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting today to review the project to manufacture an Egyptian electric car, in the presence of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghamry, Dean of Applied Research at the Arab Academy. for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Professor, Department of Automotive, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, and Dr. Mohamed El Sharkawy, Assistant Minister of Higher Education for Policies and Economic Affairs.

The Prime Minister affirmed the state’s interest in this project, which achieves the goal of localizing the electric car industry locally.

For his part, the Minister of Higher Education expressed his happiness for the opportunity to present a model for manufacturing an Egyptian electric car that achieves linking scientific research with industry, which we place on our priority agenda, pointing out that this model was developed by commission from the Prime Minister after it was presented to him at an exhibition.

During the meeting, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghamry presented the components of the electric car that will be manufactured locally and the mechanism for its development, referring to the expected returns from this project, whether in terms of investment, as well as providing direct and indirect job opportunities in the feeding industries, in addition to providing hard currency due to reducing the import bill. .

The Dean of Applied Research at the Arab Academy addressed the executive steps of the project, explaining that work is underway to start manufacturing within 6 months of the car intended for use within the city with a local component of 60%, while working to raise the local component to 90% within 24 months of starting production, through a research project. Funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, with the aim of designing all electronic and electrical components locally.

Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghamry indicated that a complex will be established to manufacture electric cars on an area of ​​50,000 square meters, and arrangements will be made to deepen the local component in mechanical design, motors, and electronic circuits, to reach 100%, adding that the project aims to meet the needs of the Egyptian market of various models. And the development of an Egyptian design for cars produced through high-level national cadres.

The Dean of Applied Research at the Arab Academy pointed out that if an Egyptian car is produced in economically impressive numbers, foreign companies have expressed their willingness to partner to establish a factory to produce electric car batteries as well as to manufacture engines locally.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghamry put forward a number of demands, including the approval of granting the golden license to the project, along with the approval of the license for the car, an alternative to the “tuk-tuk”, with a maximum speed of 45 km / h according to the specification or 60 km / h, which will operate with electricity. The Ministers give preliminary approval in this regard, while taking the relevant procedures.

The Dean of Applied Research at the Arab Academy also requested that all components of the Egyptian electric car production be exempted from customs, similar to the exemption enjoyed by imported and manufactured electric cars abroad, with an incentive of 50,000 pounds to the buyer of the Egyptian-made electric car. Study these demands with the concerned ministers.

In support of the expansion of the company’s business, and within the framework of allocating 50,000 meters in the Tenth of Ramadan City to establish the first electric car factory in Egypt, Dr. “Al-Ghamry” requested to postpone the second installment for the land to be due after two years, so the Prime Minister confirmed that there are recently approved facilitations that allow the investor The industrialist obtains the land, pays the down payment, then a two-year grace period to complete the construction of the factory, after which he begins to pay the installments.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly inspected, in the inner courtyard of the Council of Ministers, models of the produced cars, as he called for work to increase the local component, and pay attention to the quality of the product.
