On Monday 5 July, activists and activists from the LGBT + communities of Tbilisi, Georgia, were forced to cancel the Pride demonstration that was supposed to take place the same day after the local headquarters of two of the groups that had organized the event it had been attacked and vandalized. The headquarters of the two groups linked to Pride had been surrounded by dozens of people who opposed the demonstration: some men climbed onto the balconies to enter the building, then tore off some rainbow flags and vandalized the venue. Videos have also circulated on social networks showing a journalist with a bleeding mouth and nose and a man on a moped trying to ride on other journalists.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry said it “condemned all acts motivated by violence, including forms of violence against journalists”, but stressed that activists had been warned of possible violence and protests related to organized counter-demonstrations. by groups opposed to the event.
