The priciest car plate number in the world fetched $15 million at an auction in Dubai.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – At a new world record price, the world’s most expensive license plate number sold for 55 million dirhams ($15 million) at a charity auction in Dubai, according to the UAE auction organizers.

The “Most Noble Number” charitable auction, organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, in cooperation with Emirates Auctions and with the support of the Roads and Transport Authority and the Emirates Telecommunications Group Company “Etisalat”, on “Zayed Day for Humanitarian Work”, achieved 50.45 million dirhams. It provides 50.45 million meals, the proceeds of four unique numbers for vehicle plates, and five unique numbers for mobile phones, so that the charitable proceeds will be returned to support the campaign of 100 million meals,” according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

As for the goal of the campaign, which is sponsored and supervised by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, to help vulnerable communities during the holy month of Ramadan, by distributing meals to 30 countries on four continents during Ramadan, according to the auction house. That organized the auction earlier this month.

The “P7” plate broke the previous record belonging to Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khoury, who bought a composite plate for 52.2 million dirhams ($14.2 million) in February 2008, in an auction organized by the same company.
