The prices of wheat and sunflower increased by 6.6 and 6.4% for the month – Agro Plovdiv – 2024-10-16 12:02:00


The oilseed crop is 28% more expensive compared to a year earlier

For a month, the average price of the bakery wheat has grown by 6.6%, reaching BGN 371/ton according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture from October 9, published today. In just one week, the increase is 4.5 percent. However, on an annual basis, bread grain is 3.9% cheaper.

In the case of fodder wheat, the minus compared to a year earlier is even greater – 5.2%. As of October 9, fodder wheat was bought for BGN 347 after a monthly increase of 4.2%.

As of October 9, the oil mill sunflower is bought for BGN 884/ton after a monthly price increase of 6.4%.

Among the crops monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture, only sunflower has increased in price compared to October 2023, and the jump is 28%. However, this increase cannot compensate for the low yields from 2024.

On an annual basis, fodder barley has the worst market value price – BGN 314/ton, which is 7.4% less than in 2023. At the same time, the production of this cereal is record high – 1 million tons compared to 770,000 tons last year.

According to Eurostat data, in the 2023/2024 market year, the largest exporter of wheat in the EU is France – 17,534,000 tons, followed by Romania, Germany and Poland. After them is Bulgaria with 5,559,000 tons exported.
