The prices of school supplies – this is how the traders cheat us – 2024-09-03 06:51:07

The most common abuses by marketers in the sale of school supplies and in general are artificial discounts and misleading advertising messages. The Commission for Consumer Protection will monitor them throughout the month, warned Ignat Arsenov, director of the Main Directorate “Market Control” in KZP, in an interview with bTV.

The Commission is starting increased checks on the market of goods and services related to the preparation for the new school year.

“The KZP campaign will cover the essentials. For starters, consumers’ right to information, the right to accurate information regarding prices – whether they are correct, and advertising messages. The campaign will be active throughout the month, with a main focus on the safety of our children. The emphasis will be on the safety of the playgrounds and on the furniture for children and adolescents,” Arsenov pointed out.

“The checks cover the whole month and the whole market – both physical and online stores. For example, in furniture stores, we will monitor compliance with standards for children’s and youth furniture – including imports from third countries (outside the EU),” he says.

KZP advises when choosing home furniture for children to carefully look at the labels of the furniture, which must contain data on origin, as well as data on their fiber composition. If this is missing, the Commission calls for a report on their official website.

“It is important to note that we also have the right to claim this furniture. Therefore, it is important for parents to know that they must keep all documents related to the sale – receipts, invoices. The other important thing is that when parents shop at a physical store, they don’t have the right to return the item just like that. Only if it is defective can we envisage a complaint about it”, Ignat Arsenov also said.

After the start of the school year, KZP will continue its active actions to protect the health and safety of children, foreseeing new initiatives together with the State Agency for Child Protection in the following months of October and November.
