The price war on Christmas goods is in full swing: – People are hoarding

The price war on Christmas goods is in full swing. Nettavisen can document that the prices have been cut, in some cases significantly, on several items.

You can now buy glasses of pickles at the discount chains Extra, Kiwi and Rema 1000 for just 3.90. This is a price cut of 85 per cent compared to the stated pre-sale price.

I Nettavisen’s big price test which was carried out on 22 November several price cuts had already been made.

The price cuts

The steaming fresh random samples taken by Nettavisen on Wednesday morning between 07:47 and 08:18 show that new cuts have been made.

This is how the prices have changed since Nettavisen’s price check on 22 November:

Cheapest Christmas sausage

  • 22/11: 24,30
  • 29/11: 22,20

Clementine loose weight

  • 22/11: 39,90
  • 29/11: 19,90

Rice porridge Geisha

All these prices are the same at the three chains.

In addition, we found that the little Christmas marzipan pig has been reduced to 18.90. The gingerbread now costs around nine grains. That’s half price compared to last week.

See even more prices further down.

Take action against hoarding

Rema 1000 has now set a maximum limit for how many each customer can buy on several of the items that have been reduced in price.

The price tag for the jars of pickles for 3.90 at Rema 1000 now says a maximum of three per customer. The same on the gingerbread.

There is also a limit on the fresh, seasoned prime rib from Prima. But here it is a maximum of ten per customer. Most families will probably live well with that restriction.

– These are popular items that have received a strong price reduction and which we want all our customers to benefit from. Therefore, we set a maximum limit per trading on some selected goods, says Rema 1000’s category and purchasing director, Line Aarnes.

– Ha is i magen

Even though it has been cut a lot, Rune “Gjerrigknarken” is not impressed. He runs the website Gjerrigknark.com. He thinks the price war is going well for now.

– Not many of the price cuts impress me so far. It is clear that the price cut on clementines is large, but the previous price is high. There are also many people who choose the cheap online version instead, says Nikolaisen.

Defeat for Kiwis: – Bad loser

He thinks prices will go down further, and he thinks it is wise to wait with the big Christmas shopping.

– I see the price of Christmas sausages has been cut by two kroner. It doesn’t impress me. Last year, it was made for around a ten-crore.

And quite rightly so. When Nettavisen checked prices on 2 December last year the price of Christmas sausage was 12.80.

Hoarded 20 packets of porridge

The porridge rice from Geisha has received a significant cut from 24.30 to 17.90 at all three chains. It is still far from what Gjerrigknarken would consider a good price.

– I remember a few years ago. Then it was one kroner per package. Then I bought 20 packets of porridge rice.

December 2 last year the porridge was down at 16.30. But Gjerrigknarken believes that some goods are a good price.

The Christmas price war is underway: Extra cuts the price of over 100 items

– The pickles at 3.90 are a good price. People hoard, because you can store this for years too. I would think this is a good buy, and it can’t get much cheaper.

Thin rib is also a good price now, says Gjerrigknarken.

– Now the cheapest ones cost around 50 Danish kroner per kilo. I don’t think it will be much cheaper. But who knows. Maybe they dump the price even more. Pig warehouses are full.
