Today, the price of the dollar in Lebanon decreased in the informal parallel market, while banks postponed the strike.
As the exchange rate of the dollar fell against the Lebanese pound on the black market today, Saturday, to record between 79,000 and 79,500 Lebanese pounds per dollar, compared to 80,000 and 80,500 Lebanese pounds per dollar yesterday, Friday, according to the “lirarate” platform.
The price of the dollar rose through an exchange platform to 70 thousand pounds, after a surprising decision by the Banque du Liban last Wednesday.
In February, it adjusted the exchange rate to match the customs dollar, making the official government rate 15,000 against the dollar.
And last Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the Central Bank of Lebanon announced that it would start selling dollars in cash at a price of 70,000 pounds on its exchange platform, starting from Thursday, March 2.
The sudden announcement came as the exchange rate of the Lebanese pound on the parallel market reached an all-time low of 90,000 against the dollar today, Wednesday.
